The common household item that I have chosen to analyze and deconstruct and remix is a coffee cup. I chose this item because I am a bit of a coffee addiction along with my dad so my home is filled with coffee cups. I use a coffee cup sometimes two different ones throughout each day yet I have never really taken the time to think about what a coffee cup truly is and does for me. Some identifying traits of a coffee cup are:
Usually a round cup
Handle
Usually ceramic
If it's a great mug, it also has a cute picture or funny saying on it
The way I would choose to remix a coffee cup, and I’m sure this has been thought about quite a lot and possibly is already a thing, but I would somehow make the cup part of the coffee mug able to keep the liquid inside heated, a literal heated mug like a heated blanket. I personally can only drink a cup of coffee if it is hot, definitely not lukewarm. Iced coffee is a different story but if it is supposed to be cold then it should be ice cold and if it is supposed to be hot it should be steaming. I personally do not have the resources to actually put this idea into action but I’m sure someone else has tried before and possibly succeeded. This all brings in Ferguson’s idea that “everything is a remix” and that we take others’ ideas to remix into our own “original” products. I acknowledge that someone has definitely already thought about this and probably put it into action so my idea is not original and is just a remix of the basic concept of what a coffee cup is. I also acknowledge that someone had to create and evolve the coffee cup into what it is today and that technically a mug being ceramic is a more simple concept of keeping what is being held inside the mug hot. Finally, I acknowledge that like I said a heated mug like a heated blanket, that a heated blanket does already exist just like candle warmers and heated seats in a car, so my idea of incorporating that into a mug that is heated is just a remix and my idea of copying and transforming that concept. Since I can't actually put this idea into action here is just a metaphorical picture of a heated coffee mug:
