This blog post involved a lot of time thinking for me. There are so many things in life that I have never seen and probably never will. I’m aware of all of these things yet when I have to think about it specifically I couldn’t come up with anything concrete or interesting. I finally decided to try to recreate the Aurora Borealis (aka Northern Lights). I attempted it many times but my artistic abilities seemed to have failed me this week yet I did attach my attempt at drawing/coloring the Northern Lights. This is my personal remediation of the Northern Lights from the media of knowledge that I’ve seen over life and descriptions of what the Northern Lights look like. I can’t give credit to anyone because the knowledge of the Aurora Borealis is something of common knowledge of basic information that it exists. You can’t really give credit for nature; the fact that the sky is blue and grass is green, the rotations around the sun, the moon’s rotations. It’s fascinating to me that we are so minimal in the grand scheme of life yet we can make such an impact in our own lives. The Northern Lights, Covid, ghosts, outer space, aliens? All of these things are so large and complex and seem abstract to people who haven’t had direct experience with them. Yet we as people, have these ideas and schemas about what these things are really like even when we haven’t seen them before and might never see them. Media construes how people perceive things. It’s an interesting concept because we take how we were taught something and continue to spread that information/”knowledge” in the way we think is correct. Based on how we are presented with information definitely impacts how we perceive that information and everyone can have different views on that information which guides how we go through life and different situations and experiences.
